Tina Lowe - who am I?
My name is Tina Lowe, I work in AHEAD - Association for Higher Education Access and Disability - and am running for the NUI Senate this year in an effort to get issues raised, debated, changed and put into our legislation in time for disabled people and for people who are disadvantaged and on the fringes of our so-called Celtic Tiger economy. I am going into this election because having experienced much discrimination as a blind person (having lost my sight in 1993) I want to make people sit up and question why it is that we treat people who are different in this way. I am also a very practical, driven person who believes in action as opposed to words only. I get things done and I attempt to make others take on new ideas and challenge their preconceptions. I would be delighted to hear your thoughts on my potential campaign and any thoughts you have from now on on this blog on any issues you feel are relevant and worth discussing when it comes to education, employment, discrimination, marginalisation and injustices in our society. This is my first time ever going into an election, I am a rookie but I have a track record from the work that I do: get jobs for disabled people.I have a voice which I have used many times in the media on many different aspects relating to my work and my life. I believe in power to the people and using your voice, so I look forward to hearing from you.
